If you launched a probe to alpha Centauri with the best available tech right now, how long would it take to get there?
For eg solar sails and thrusters/nuke motors capable of getting it to say 0.02c puts it at around 200 years. 0.1c = 43y, possibly imagery in my lifetime 🤯

And remember you have way more time to construct a much more advanced receiver in the solar system to pick up on the ultra weak return transmissions

Breakthrough Starshot project says 20 to 30 years, using laser array from Earth to accelerate very small probes

Starshot Project thinks they can do it in 20 years and that most of the problems are solvable. Biggest issues are political. Good luck getting 100+ dedicated 1,000 MW nuclear power plants built around the globe.

20 years. All we need is 100 million lasers.

Watched an episode once about thus on pbs spade in YouTube where he said possible 50 years. 20 years research and 30 years travel time. Thsts was 5 years ago. Also information delay of 4 years. If everything goes to plan your looking 50 years from now say 2070s
