I think it’s less about Scorsese in particular and more about Oscars. They all definitely want the validation of Oscars and only anti-superhero movies can get them. But I think enough win/have won that Holland’s point actually stands.
Unclear to me why the Oscars continue to have such cachet when it’s been clear for decades that it’s a genre of movie rather than a quality band. I don’t actually enjoy Oscar movies in the big categories usually. Barely ever watch them.

I think the Oscars since Crash have been closer to Miss World/Miss Universe pageants than real awards. Sordid spectacles you can optimize for.
All dominantly cultural awards are institutions that are kinda weakening and collapsing and being taken over by some faction or the other while they have some residual harvest value. Right up to the literature Nobel.
