In San Diego rn scouting for possibly moving here. Some things to like, some things to dislike. It has a bit of a premature retirement community feel like Portland.

Agreed!
Unless you are in biotech, San Diego is a place to go once you have made your money- not before.
We are visiting SD soon as well

I’m a big fan except for the lazy feeling. Just needs a couple hip startups to be based there …

San Diego should literally feel like a new Barcelona, walkable, vibrant, with exciting neoclassical and Mexican architecture, with an amazing beachfront crammed with exciting condo and luxury developments. Instead it’s one vast parking lot. Gotta love how we paved over paradise.

Def has that Denver / PDX vibe of "bigger than expected, will never be a real city" – even the tall buildings are somehow suburban – like a Bellevue without Seattle

Grew up in San Diego—
imo it has no soul
Most architecture and housing in from the 70’s onward
The only thing it has going for it is Mexican food and some fine beaches
