How are pro-NFT artists responding to the solidifying hostility from anti-NFT artists? Is it causing a genuine schism in the art world or is it a fringe skirmish? I sense a sharp quickening of tensions in the air in the last week.
I feel like your dilemma assumes that NFTs being / becoming a norm is a given and any perceived “hostility” coming from anti-NFT artists is actually resistance to change or progress, a preference to maintain the status quo… And that isn’t the case at all.
Being strongly against NFTs, I find it sad how it is hailed as the only solution to some problems artists face and people pointing out “hey maybe this isn’t it, because of xyz reasons” gets shut down as luddites because it is high tech.
That seems a silly debate to get into. Nothing is ever the complete solution to anyone’s problems. I haven’t come across people arguing that strawman. It’s a solution to some problems for some artists, but mostly an opportunity to do new kinds of art.
Well precisely, nothing is a complete solution, but lots seem to consider NFTs to be the only solution in the absence of others. Like I said, the dilemma assumes that it is a given and we should just adapt around that fact.
How does it enable new kinds of art?
They are irrelevant and ignorable noise as far as I’m concerned.
I’ll let you explore the new kinds of art on your own if you’re curious. I’m not in the evangelism business.
