Thinking more about this, LinkedInification is a kind of attempted semantic commodification. Name a vacuous official-sounding category around a unique thing with personality to claim authority over it.

Like microblogging was a singleton category with twitter as it’s only credible member for a long time. You had yammer type things but afaict they failed to beef up the category. Microblogging only became a real category after Mastodon appeared.

Until a sui generis thing actually evolves into an n>2 set, it just sounds like small mindedness to try and rename it.

🤣 maybe Though in this case the term is intended as a pejorative, so maybe the logic is reversed and we do want branded. Express envy via semantic commodification, contempt via semantic differentiation. The asshole heuristic of meta-naming.

We need a non-branded version of Linkedinification
