Starting to sink in just how much against the FAANG grain Web3 goes. It uses all the Web2 tech, but in haram ways that I don't think FAANG will be able to easily compromise with.
Is it just me or is Web3 congenitally bad at discovery, communications, graphs, and big data? All the things Web2 is great at.
Otoh Web2 is great at: privacy, distribution, collections, and data portability. Everything Web2 sucks at.
Say more about the graphs/big data point? Isn’t that capability implied in the underlying blockchains? You have super granular and highly aggregated data available on all these projects afaik.
web3 is also boosted by the same vc’s that made all their money on web2. Decentralized protocols will always suffer from discoverability and the difficulty of running an internet service at your home. Napster and Bittorrent would fit under current “web3” definitions for example.
Web2 became good at those things as markets became definable. You could start a portfolio of firms and academia that builds discovery, graphs, big data, comms on/for Web3 .
