Starting to sink in just how much against the FAANG grain Web3 goes. It uses all the Web2 tech, but in haram ways that I don't think FAANG will be able to easily compromise with.

Is it just me or is Web3 congenitally bad at discovery, communications, graphs, and big data? All the things Web2 is great at.
Otoh Web2 is great at: privacy, distribution, collections, and data portability. Everything Web2 sucks at.

not surprised... it goes against 30 years of tech culture and patterns of authority and management

If you post anything about either Web3 or NFT's on Hacker News, there is an instant swift flurry if downvotes. There's a group of people who loathe it beyond anything I can remember in my 16 years in this industry.

Web2 is about getting an exclusive group of highly skilled collaborators to build a product in private. Web3 is about getting a very large group of collaborators at any skill level to permissionlessly build in the open.
As a result, Web3 product development is much more scalable

I generally avoid using the term web3 as a lot of people associate it with cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
In the decentralised web space, there is a whole host of interesting projects though. CRDT's allow for p2p collaboration and ownership without finance.

Nah its just that the outgroup made money grifting.
One of two things happens either some inside the overton window get rich and convert, or web3 makes its own hn over a bunch of substacks, github and CT.
