This is unhelpful and cedes the moral high ground. Those comparisons are made specifically to talk about emissions, not dollars. So switching to dollars for things that are not as carbon intensive confuses the issue in a way that weakens rather than strengthens case for crypto.

I spend much time explaining crypto to folks who've seen the TV ads ("Rs. 100 Bitcoin free with new account!") They don't really know much about it, but they all know it consumes a lot of electricity. It's helpful to have analogies from different angles to show it is complicated

Emissions associated with crypto are not the same as emissions for countries of course. What’s the energy mix? Which country? Iceland? France? Nigeria? It’s disingenuous all the way down. IIRC Canada spills more hydro over their dams than bitcoin miners use.
