I guess Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams remain too hard to adapt. Didn’t like any of the recent attempts with their stuff.

International audience growth - favourable scale economics thus higher budgets - preference for stories with universal archetypes + Cost of production of world-heavy projects trending downwards (via virtual production etc.) + “IP arms race” among platforms

I enjoyed Dune and have heard Foundation is great. Jury’s out on the others. TBH the wheel of time trailer did not look great to me.

It’s an arms race as traditional studios now have to compete with tech startups in the Balkanizing streaming subscription landscape and yeah, Game of Thrones was the vanguard. now it’s a race to dig up “mature genre stories with built in audiences and potentially 6-8 seasons”
