🌌 Many people feel that *some* sort of important meaning is missing, and call it “cosmic,” but I am skeptical that this has anything to do with stuff trillions of miles away. Only geeks care about that stuff, and we don’t find it upsettingly meaningless.

Counterpoint: space scifi is one of the biggest substitutes for religion in modernity. There’s a reason whatever need that feels found expression in that particular way. And religions too map their mythologies onto the “heavens.” And Giordano Bruno turned heretic over it.
