Web3 art has a weirdly "finished" aesthetic despite being derived from aesthetics (memes, tiktoks, GAN outputs, 8bit art) that tend to be pretty raw in the wild. Something going on there that I don't quite grok.

really depends where you look but i know what you mean
what your describing may be bc of product design and fintech getting to the space early to build the scaffolding
the art that feels more raw tends to exist purely on chain or as memes / ideas on web2

Immediate intuitive reaction to that hypothesis is to try & imagine some kind of parallel with the higher standard of polish/perfection expected on Instagram. I'm not an Instagram expert so I don't know where to go with the idea.

something like the aura of the work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction has to come into play when scarcity and ownership suddenly become possible

People forget that art only matters because it’s a medium of communication. Art as a store of value and as a pretty thing to look at is completely secondary. A lot of NFT art feels pretty hollow to me because it doesn’t have anything to say
