after half a day of finally getting my feet wet on web3, gotta admit it's pretty cool the decentralized ux with a wallet to sign everything as the identity that travels around with you is so much better than passwords or a third party identity thing

You still need to store (shared) identity metadata somewhere, right? Otherwise it's just wallet == pwd manager, signing == specific password auth standard. Don't see how it enables anything new.

yeah basically... you have to secure the wallet seed phrase offline, but the whole protocol is much more lightweight and doesn't depend on a password manager to stay in business. So long as you have the wallet seed phrase, it's technically feasible to recover your private keys

Sure but nothing prevents you to have a pwd manager with pwd generator seeded with private key. The only diff is it's not required so you looee the ability to verify "auth" from outside but don't see the harm in that.
