Sudan is such an enigma. Is it North Africa? Is it East Africa? Eastern Africa? Horn? Sahelian? It’s a borderlands country, a unique civilization to itself that is in a sense a lonely civilization, like it’s neighbor Ethiopia, but at least Ethiopia is unquestionably East African.

The answer of course being that Sudan is all of those categories, but being all of those things makes each less important in the whole! A very weird and ancient country that doesn’t get analyzed as much as it should. It even has pyramids!

Yes the Kushites of Sudan conquered Ancient Egypt at one point and had their own dynasty of about eight hundred years before they were eventually subsumed by later dynasties. A lot of shared cultural links and architecture.
