Indian HR professionals please note: using generational labels is wrong even in the US (so totally useless in India.) And most of the things you do under the guise of engaging "millennials" are just patronizing.

I don't have a strong opinion on the quoted research about applicability to the US but I have problems with Indian HR importing it wholesale to India. Boomers makes no sense in India. As a result Gen X defined in terms of boomers doesn't either.

"millennials" maybe makes sense with a bit of a shift in years but the way it is applied is patronizing at the "Millennials can't read full sentences and only understand memes" level. (ie content doesn't matter as long as it's in mene format)

I think the generations theory does work worldwide. Just manifests differently in different cultures. It’s primarily a function of waves of technology so the memes thing, while reductive, is not entirely wrong.

The pre-1980 generations in US don't appear to be about technology. And in any case, the real problem is laziness in importing US definitions and attributes of generations without sufficient localization.

I get you’re criticizing lazy thinking of a particular sort, but the solution is to encourage better thinking, not point to sketchy academic criticism based on “empirical washing” as an authoritative counterpoint. That feels a bit like “according to Dr. Pot, Mr. Kettle is black”
