Web3 is like the Tea Party and Occupy of startups. There’s a revolutionary fervor that goes beyond just wanting to win elections/markets. In both cases the goal is to install a new ideology that is hostile to the incumbents’ game rules.

This growing schism has been obscured by the fact that it all gets clubbed under “tech” and the techlash is a shared enemy. But long term the schism will shape events more. It’s like how if you “hate politics” you might miss how the fringe movements hate traditional parties.

I was making the point to a friend that Web3 is more so a cultural shift than purely technological. The motive seems to be to remove extractionary middlemen and create more horizontal systems.
