When you’ve written enough and people quote enough random bits back at you that you barely recognize, frequently enough to form a stream, it’s a kind of body horror mirror. Like a Dorian Gray painting of yourself. The quoteback stream gestalt is basically your inner monster.

While I have minor cringe responses to older writing, it doesn’t really bother me, and I don’t feel any need to delete or edit. But the quoteback stream… yeah. And the prob,em is worse if you’re primarily an essayist, since books control their own reaction exhaust better.

If you don’t want this kind of body horror, try to do all your writing as big fat books released every few years.
