What is the simplest way to do an auditable but secret prediction? Like encrypted statement on the ethereum blockchain followed by publishing the decryption key at a later date? Is there a simple app that does that which I can use with metamask or something?

Okay this is a good enough technique, let’s go with it ht

Just for fun, I’m going to try predicting the plot turns of the show, but without spoiling it for people. Here is the SHA-256 hash of my first prediction. Will reveal when either verified or falsified

Isn't posting a hash common and then when it comes true, you post the input text that generated the hash?

It would have to be “time”-locked for it to be useable, otherwise you can publish all possibilities and only publish the one that was accurate.

this is called 'dropping a hash'
has a good post about it: kalzumeus.com/essays/droppin
you can simply tweet a hash & then publish the decryption key at a later date, no ethereum blockchain needed
