is the converse of this that people have no real insight in advanced information work (that the insights are a product of pure randomness, e.g. your managers example)? or does the randomness in success stem from the odds of developing traction with your audience?

yeah, I feel that way after my feature launches. the simple stupid ones succeed and thought out ones fall flat. trying more to follow methods but not always applicable since real, meaningful "judgements" in a job are sparse and often difficult to know a priori
