Since being self-employed I have a hard time orienting myself in time. When I had a job I had a better sense of where I was in the year, month and week. Lose track of this so much more.

One weird thing that perhaps others do is that I visualize the year starting in September. Mostly because for all school years you always had the calendar starting in September So now I sense the year is ending in four months but that puts me halfway in the year long timeline.

I think this is more common than January actually. August is when the previous year gets written off as an unsalvageable train wreck. College schedules are part of the reason but it’s more general.
