Complexification, variegation… really what we want is evolution in the sense of increasing connected/holistic divergent complexity and variety across time. Ontogeny is closest but is too linear/convergent in the macro. Plain evolution misses the connectedness

Actualization (of potential) is a good but atemporal term. Also there’s an aspect here of the evolution reflecting the environment — a tree will branch in a way shaped by sunlight, gravity and water flows 🤔
