Seems to work well enough that people get addicted and turn into biochemists. It’s the guy version of skincare stuff women go supernerd on. Kinda fascinating. Didn’t expect disenchantment with mainstream healthcare to take this particular form.

I’m passively up to 7-8 supplements myself now. Passive as in wife (a green belt broscientist) runs the whole show. Me: “What’s this new pill?” Her: “It’s zonkazum+ 2000 and it boosts zonkazic acid to fight nargles” Me: “Ah, that seems alright then” (pop pills, glugglug)

I have sharp limits on how much time and energy I’m willing to invest in resisting the inevitable. Cover the major bases, spin the wheel on the rest. Screw optimization.

My hunch is everyone who has the inclination is 'doing research' on whatever subject fills their need, be it insecurity (broscience), fear (Q), greed (crypto), fandom, meaning (woo), etc and its growing and feeding on itself.

I follow a nootopics reddit and it's not great I think. People there find one paper that says X is good and then add that to their already gigantic stack of supplements. Lots of people with weird side effects too.
