Anyone else have really long delays with passports? My mother-in-law applied for renewal in October 2020. They cashed the check promptly enough (so not lost in the mail) and it's been saying "in process" since. No passport, no notification of any issues.

Calling voice support solved nothing since apparently they can't look up specific applications anymore. And you can't make an appointment unless you have foreign travel planned (so we're literally thinking of booking her a trip somewhere just to get an appointment).

I applied for renewal after her, and got it back promptly, thanks to paying for expedited. If anyone else needs to do this... STRONGLY recommend paying for expedited processing. The ordinary process looks basically completely broken with even the redressal/support broken.

It is super slow. Apparently you can “upgrade” a previously submitted application to expedited service. Might be worth trying.

I even paid for expedited. Got the old one back, but no new one. My son lost his and still got one faster 😒
