I've been making a China readings page, but I can't find an intuitive starting point. I think I kinda get China the historical people/civilization somewhat, but I can't really grok the CCP, how it thinks, and why. Could use a single Kremlinology type essay.

Most people who are deep into China are also deep into whatever-the-word-for-Kremlinology-is on China and seem to revel in reading 100 books/1000 sources. I suspect it's not that deep, just as the mind of the Kremlin turned out to not be that deep after the USSR collapsed.

I'm not the right person for curating that sort of thing. There's plenty of real China wonks who already do a much better job... I'm kinda looking for the One Ring single essay (preferred) or book

2nd edition is 2012... kinda want a very current read and preferably essay length. Xi and post-Trump/post-Covid era seems to be a genuinely new regime.
