What would you say is the difference between a technologist and an engineer?

I don't hear "technologist" often but it seems more like a big-picture strategy kind of thing where engineering is more small-scale tactics to accomplish specific goals.q

Engineers implement. Technologists practice.
(I'm both, but lean toward the technologist side as far as day-to-day.)

Quote from Linus Torvalds: “I am not a visionary. I'm an engineer. I'm happy with the people who are wandering around looking at the stars but I am looking at the ground and I want to fix the pothole before I fall in.”

I would expect an engineer to use calculations to design an object/system capable of achieving a specific target function or result.
I have less clear expectations of technologist, but I’d describe the difference between the term and engineer as possibly including inventiveness.

Some people call me both, but I don't think I qualify for either, maybe technologist, but definitely not engineer. I think founder/entrepreneur is a better fit for people who don't build anymore even if they can.
