the problem of fake products on amazon is getting worse, especially for cheap low-tech products
just had to return a set of plastic Iris boxes that I suspect were fake (lids were missing)... and shopping for alt boxes, most listings have negative reviews that hint at fakes

I think I'm going to actually go to the container store or target or something to pick up the boxes I need... gonna limit buying from amazon for somewhat higher tech, branded products

WTF. Like, bought online from China? Or literally the same stuff but from a local Amazon warehouse? Do you factor your time into the "more expensive" calculation?

Nope. Just straight up way more expensive. Same branded item is likely to be higher in the local store than Amazon. They have higher retailing costs (real estate in cities instead of suburban warehouses, more retail labor/service...).

Hm, so that's why it's eating retail. Over here there isn't much of a difference for local online stores, and we don't have large scale ones like Amazon. And the difference tend to be backwards, since real stores can often "skip" bureaucracy and taxes, while online ones can't.

Here offline is also big corporate chains for most things and all pay taxes, and do most of their sales via credit card. Even small businesses mostly do it that way. Cash-only business is a small fraction
