Old people don’t quote aphorisms and proverbs to bore young people. They mainly do it because it gets harder and harder to remember more complicated things. Boring young people is just a nice-to-have side-effect.

When I was 25 I could hold complex gantt charts for big projects in my head. Now I can only do management aphorisms.

Actually what happens is as you get older you learn stuff like:
"measure twice, cut once"
Are far more than common sense but crap you need to force yourself into a complete habit of doing... to "lean in" on say... because humans need habits not just common sense

Lots of aphorisms and also traditions and superstitions and customs are human defenses against human emotional biases described more technically in fields like behavioral economics
...and unlike behavioral economics which dwells on the inefficiency, often the rote is insurance

I think I store data as analogy because it’s more dense and can be decompressed when needed, but then I get lazy and just share the analogy /aphorism / meme
