If you see a rattlesnake on the trail you’ll warily avoid it... what do you call such a counterparty? Not an enemy, competitor, or adversary. Not a proactive hostile either. Just a temperamentally dangerous person you want to avoid or handle with care.

Adversarial persistence can be complex tho - killer bees are also best just avoided, but if they lock on, they LOCK ON

Only go close if you want them to strike.
