For me, it's something like fear of concretizing failure. If I don't do the task, it might fail or might succeed, I can cling to hope/ keep it in superposition. If I do the task, it could definitely fail and that would feel really bad and demoralizing.

It might even be that in my mind, the probabilities aren't equal. If there's a high chance I will succeed, I would be excited to do it (although then I would put it off because I know I can get it done later). If there's a high chance of failure, I'd rather avoid finding out.
