I bought a dremel but am not really developing a feel for the tool. I get intellectually that it’s high rpm low torque unlike a drill which is high toque low rpm, but intuitions feel… not off, but absent.
Suggestions for simple, cheap learning projects?

I use mine for inlaying rosettes, logos, and fret markers on my guitars, with the addition of specialty bases from my guitar supplier Stew Mac. I use spiral downcut bits for the 1/8" collet, 1/32" to 1/8" diameters.

Use the engraving bit to do some freehand drawing, it’ll give you a sense of pressure and speed.

I find them (cordless especially) too bulky for precision/freehand work. Still great for many uses.

Firstly, I am jealous looking at these photos .
Second, how about engraving your signature on all wooden furniture in the house?
Also working with foam seems like a good starting project.

I use the little cut-off wheel all the time to fix protruding nail heads (carpentry mistakes)

The main thing I do with my dremel is trim my dogs’ and cats’ nails. Probably not the sort of project you are looking for though.
