This is a weird but valid take, but also I’ve not really ever heard this from artists? This tweet is from a different dimension

I literally don’t trust anyone who says they make art to help others. Art is a selfish pursuit, a vanity project. If you want to “help people,” go be a social worker or something

Weird to me because I’ve not heard of people saying they selflessly make art often enough to really have an opinion, and surely there are some cases where art is created with the sole purpose of helping others. Ultimately it depends on how someone defines art.

Nobody will ever say it explicitly, but a certain kind of artist will strongly imply it via opinions on how grants programs ought to be run, or adopting a “suffering for my art” posture like they’re a national park deserving public support. Or a suffering messiah posture.

Ahhh, I was imaging more of people who make art for charities/auctions for raising money, stuff like that. Suffering artist types are insufferable.
