Figured out how to make gears in OnShape today using their featurescript. I am now officially unstoppable. 3d printing them now. This is just a hacky test job (those spokes on the largest gear are bad... I made them with a pattern of holes rather than an equal width spoke)

Tne featurescript is great. It can also make helical gears, but I suspect 3d printer will struggle to print them unless the angle is fairly mild. But will try anyway.

Worst gear train ever. Also my first gear train ever. Now to make up some cunning mechanisms.

Redid the base with through holes for Chicago binding posts instead of integrated plastic posts. Better but still crappy. Partly some misprint effects on big gear (one edge curled while printing to thinner) and partly really sensitive tolerances on the holes/posts.

how'd you choose OnShape as CAD platform? Have been resorting to Blender after poking around a bit

they are not really comparable... blender is 3d modeling for art/graphics, onshape is for engineering CAD

Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration. Good rainy afternoon project with our son, gears and base printing now.
