Shouldn’t the next thing be Web 4?
Web 2.0 was approximately 2004-2007: RSS, REST, jquery + Rails, Unix, “small tools loosely joined”, blogging.
Web 3.0 is what we’re in now: smart phones, frontend frameworks, surveillance ad tech, gig economy, social media monoliths.
Yeah the naming is dumb. But I think it’s key to make the difference between these two phases visible so the later doesn’t erase the former. I think there’s still a lot to be learned from that earlier period. It’s a stronger foundation for true decentralization than blockchain.
