heath ledger's joker in the dark knight is a sort of paradoxical, circular staircase type of character, he had such lasting power memetically because he made such an impression, tho if you "actually" examine him he doesn't quite hold up. he makes ~narrative~ sense as a motif

i mean, if he were actually chaotic, he wouldn't be able to come up with the elaborate setups. eg he says "do I look like a guy with a plan", but he also does do these elaborate plans! so which is it?? requires author intervention

He has a plan to create chaos! “Some men just want to see the world burn” like Albert (the reliable narrator) says. What he *says* is unreliable self-narration to confuse people. That chaos-making trait is established with the changing story of the smile scar.
