“What do you want to be when you grow up” is a less revealing question than “What do you want to be when you grow old”
The way modern life is set up, most people only have significant agency when they grow old (empty nest age) but are not yet elderly. So like 50-65.

More interesting question, what do you want to be when you are "elderly"? Judge? Politician? President?

In the 1970s, it was not that unusual to pass away within 12 months of retirement. To maintain physical and mental health, I suspect those who can, will continue to work as long as possible.
