First dose vaccine done 💪

Definite ritual rite of passage feel to it. Got it at the public health building downtown and there’s a muted sense of grey, bureaucratic public ceremony there. They staff seem genuinely cheery about being part of getting things going again.

Suddenly feeling major first-world guilt at fact that most of the developing world lacks the deep freeze distribution to handle the mRNA vaccines even if they were given away free

We have 2 public holidays for military but none for public health. Maybe Veterans Day can remain military, and Memorial Day can be repurposed for commemorating healthcare workers 🤔
Or a whole new holiday.
Healthcare is now like 17% of gdp, military is 3-4%

Interesting what professions/roles get included in public esteem ceremony and pageantry. India has a “Teacher’s Day” but no specific military day. The military honors stuff happens on “Republic Day” which is like Constitution Day in the US but a much bigger deal.

got my first dose Wednesday — everyone did seem pretty cheery. It felt pretty remarkable to be part of a large in-personal communal effort again.
