Kinda amazing that biology works without measurement. There’s no “what size bolt does a baby need?” or “do you want a metric or imperial banana.” No SAE or IEEE standards committees.

It helps that the space of possibilities for 99.9999% of species is constrained by its available free energy. Humans figuring out how to harness free energy from the environment independent of their metabolism created the need for standards by exploding the combinatorial space.
