Interesting discussion of markets for things like rarely needed anti-venoms. One of those things that needs a just-in-time on-demand production model. Otherwise sounds like a rare kind of venom will cost millions in annual preparedness whether markets or governments pay.

if you get bitten by basically anything but a rattlesnake it's unlikely that the hospital will have the antivenom on hand. Antivenom is only good for ~6 months and is wildly expensive so hospitals would be throwing away thousands of dollars worth of medicine

I'm reminded of the discussion of how a number of navies with submarine fleets should collaborate to pre-position a number of rescue vessels around the world. This was in 2000 around the time of the Kursk incident.
