“My 2c” is an arrogant preface pretending to be a humble one. You really think your thoughts are generally acceptable dollar-denominated assets? To see this more clearly try saying “my 0.3 μg of gold”(worth about $0.02 today)
Cryptohumble: “My 2 personal shitcoins”

This explains why I find the phrase irritating. It’s generally used by people with a high opinion of themselves that they just assume you share. They think they’re being self-deprecating but aren’t really. Sincere and credible self-deprecation sounds different.

wait do you think people are thinking about what the connotations of that phrase are before they use it, and not just saying a thing because that's what you say before certain kinds of statements?

No they’re not thinking this explicitly. It’s a sign of the typical mind fallacy at work that you’d even think your thoughts were transmissible that easily.

I'm skeptical you can even infer that much from someone using a phrase that's so common

It’s not actually that common. A particular type of person uses it heavily ime, and most people very rarely do
