“My 2c” is an arrogant preface pretending to be a humble one. You really think your thoughts are generally acceptable dollar-denominated assets? To see this more clearly try saying “my 0.3 μg of gold”(worth about $0.02 today) Cryptohumble: “My 2 personal shitcoins”

This explains why I find the phrase irritating. It’s generally used by people with a high opinion of themselves that they just assume you share. They think they’re being self-deprecating but aren’t really. Sincere and credible self-deprecation sounds different.

Annoyingly, that performed high self-esteem is often conscious overcompensation for repressed low self-esteem so if you actually treat it as a worthless 2c thought to be disregarded, you’ll provoke a bit of a defensive lash-out. “Oh, you meant ‘my $2 ’ and were being humble”

Note, this is just a natural consequence of typical mind fallacy coupled with other issues. People aren’t consciously thinking this stuff. It’s the fact that the dissonance of assuming a convertible thought currency does NOT strike most people that is revealing.

To grok this, consider a comparable “typical height fallacy” exchange: 5’ tall person: “I can’t reach that shelf” 6’ tall person: “I think it’s perfectly accessible”

No they’re not thinking this explicitly. It’s a sign of the typical mind fallacy at work that you’d even think your thoughts were transmissible that easily.

another good way of having an "i told you so" moment to look back on without needing to follow it through
