My response to the Times article about Slate Star Codex:
1. There's no evidence it was very popular or influential in the tech world
2. Techies (including founders) are OVERWHELMINGLY liberals
3. Rationalists care mostly about esoterica, not politics

This whole debate reminded me of what and I used to jokingly call “Houses” of SV. Among House Thiel, SSC is/was popular. Within other Houses it was not. SV gets flattened in the media quite a bit.

This was maybe 7 years ago and convo was about influence as well as co-investing dynamics (“alliances”) in the Valley. We had a whole network graph of relationships with PG/YC, Eric Reiss, O’Reilly, 500 Startups... I might have it in some very old Gdrive somewhere have to look.

Had we met at that point? I think we met at foocamp in 2013. This graph is pretty out-of-date.
Yes — the framing was from 2013, I found the draft of the blog post. The Houses have changed today.
I think I was already in BAR by this point bc Nick and I met in 2011 and he invited me to join the Group right around then...I was a Ribbonfarm reader before that.
