it’s just another brand of justice, kind of like “street justice”, and like all kinds of justice, it’s messy and complicated and totally different case-by-case

Haha this is exactly the split I expected. I put myself squarely in the 'meh' camp, but knew the majority would line up behind 'cancerous'. I do wonder whether the ammunition to cancel might not be reduced if a couple of the 'it's the devil's would come around to my camp

There is a skillfully designed motte-and-bailey preventing anyone from actually talking apples to apples. The motte is fine, the bailey nasty, and ultimately backed by corporations who are negotiating with e-mobs for a minor PR fix-up.

cancel *culture* is a cancer there's sometimes a need to remove particularly odious individuals, but once cancelling is happening enough to be a recognisable common thing, its being used way too much
