tweet sponsored by the slowly unfolding plumbing situation in my apartment that has been stabilized and bounded away from emergency by maintenance but left me musing the unreasonable complexity of shower faucets

Update: reality merely has too few instructions. The *right* details for each situation are too numerous to document. Senior maintenance guy came this morning and fixed plumbing issue in 5 minutes where assistant who tried yesterday struggled for 2 hours and still messed it up.

Trick was, a replacement valve had to be inserted into pipe in a half-open position so it slides in smoothly. Junior guy tried to jam it in full-open and damaged it. Sort of detail you’d either guess by insight, figure out trial-and-error, or see done right in apprentice mode.

I submit there is too much of this sort of detail to document in training manuals or books/videos. Too detailed to document. Kinda like too cheap to meter.

Yeah cause the senior guy has many "2hour fuckup" experiences in his past. I do more shit than most and I always say that a job is not done right if you don't have to back up and undo something you screwed up. Senior guy would agree btw.

All the detail could be documented, but maybe too much of the detail in our lives is just mental support systems that have partially bled outside of other minds and it’s impossible to fully externalize a mind
