reality has way too much detail

Update: reality merely has too few instructions. The *right* details for each situation are too numerous to document. Senior maintenance guy came this morning and fixed plumbing issue in 5 minutes where assistant who tried yesterday struggled for 2 hours and still messed it up.

Trick was, a replacement valve had to be inserted into pipe in a half-open position so it slides in smoothly. Junior guy tried to jam it in full-open and damaged it. Sort of detail you’d either guess by insight, figure out trial-and-error, or see done right in apprentice mode.

I submit there is too much of this sort of detail to document in training manuals or books/videos. Too detailed to document. Kinda like too cheap to meter.

Subculture is all the references you don’t need to drop explicitly.

Yes that’s what I’m referring to. Already a meme around here.

It should. Easily one of the best posts of the last decade.
