This system probably uses a combination of permanent magnets(for levitation) and electromagnets(actively controlled for lateral stability, suspension). Relying on magnetic attraction from perm magnets is more efficient. Also inherently provides more lateral stability

The pod probably only uses linear induction motor(s) for forward acceleration, the only power used for levitation is for suspension and lateral control, which reduces the energy required, reducing battery weight, reducing the force needed to levitate

You also get rid of the need for moving parts, making things more efficient and reducing complexity + weight as well. With we used spinning Halbach array disks to levitate with repulsion. While this works, it's nowhere near as efficient as what they've done here
