They’re really slathering on the unifying national montage schmaltz. This stuff used to be phoned-in diversity banality in 2015, but now sounds fresh again. 4 years of propaganda that it’s all PC/fake almost made me forget that the US is *actually* the most diverse place on earth
People forget how rare this is, globally. Few big countries can put on such a broad-spectrum cultural show. In India I grew up with endless state television diversity things (pretty good) and though there was a lot of linguistic variety, all the people basically looked like me.
I made my peace decades ago with the fact that diversity is fundamentally threatening to some people, fundamentally exciting to others. It’s possible, but not easy, to switch polarities.
America is gifted in its ability for whiplash, in just 24 hours we have gone from the ideological 1776 commission to this soft propaganda display for national diversity. Very few countries could manage this sense of disorientation and take it in stride.
