Has anyone tried to make a dumb terminal that looks like a laptop but actually works with a desktop nearby over a wireless link?

versions of this on steam for games (you can stream within the home) and over the cloud gaming networks and airplay but there are points where the abstraction layer can break which makes the experience require some maintenance.

Yes, wireless desktop video streaming at a good resolution doesn’t exist. Yes we can steam 4K movies, but there’s a lot more tolerance for latency buffering and compression artifacts w/ movies than a desktop.
Otherwise you’re just talking about running VNC on a chromebook.

In the long term this is probably the endgame for something like Google Stadia when paired w/ a 5G connection. You can carry a cheap phone w/ just a camera, battery, touchscreen & radio while all of the processing happens remotely. Imagine having a week or more of battery life
