the hardcore crowd needs the support of a larger populace though... old principle of guerrilla warfare is that guerrilla movements can only succeed with the support of the host population... applies digitally too.

The funnel entry points were the less secure open fora like 4chan and parler, if those go down, you have to vertically integrate the intakes, increasing your attack surface, and there's no obvious place to recruit online. You could go offline, but then you become more traditional
