Lately there’s been a gradual uptick in young(er) people asking me for “advice” and a steady decline in my energy to be helpful in any way. So I made up a convenient boilerplate advice table to blow them off with.
this is earnestpost... I'll probably refine it a bit and put it on ribbonfarm. It's not meant to contain any new thinking... more of a tldr summary of the general drift of past writing. Long-time readers... did I miss any key idea from old writing?
The biggest structural problem with this boilerplate is it doesn't capture the open-loop couplings between stages (stuff you should do in stage n but won't really see the effects of till stage n+1 at least, so it seems pointless in the moment)
I have often thought, retrospectively, that it'd be great to know when things have the lowest friction. My naive version is something like life stages (late puberty: build muscle) but the dream version is more if __situation__, then __key opportunities__.
