Some 10 years ago, when I read this satirical story titled वंश-वृक्ष (= family tree), I was amazed by the writing of Ghulam Abbas, for not only he was able to make me smile, but also left a keen portrait of a dynamic life of a Muslim family in India over the centuries. 2/3

These versions of Nāgarī differed in couple of syllables (some vowels, some consonants and conjuncts). Interesting to know southern Nāgarī which is traditionally used to write #Marathi & #Sanskrit in the south, became the basis of the current standard of Devanagari for #Hindi.
