Anyone know the details of how observability migrated from control theory to distributed computing? It’s been really weird for me to see a familiar concept turn unfamiliar. I see people acknowledge the provenance but haven’t found details. Is there a seminal paper?

said people less likely to be formally educated on cybernetics and control
people who work in real time control systems talk about the concepts publicly less due to nature of work

I mainly saw migration of ideas from control theory into complex distributed systems via reference to various books, no papers.
Then the ground-up rethinking by smart folks of the ways data about such things is thought about, collected
